Sehr schönes Buch mit viel Geschichte und Hintergründen! Wirklich interessant geschrieben. War für einen Vortrag für die Universität und diente super als Quelle.
Tolles Hörbuch! Ich bin selbst in der Branche Tätig und habe daher einiges aus der Unternehmensgeschichte und Entwicklung der Marke für mich nutzen könmen, der Sprecher ist sehr angenehm und der Schreibstil ist sehr unterhaltsam!
Great read and truly a success story!
This is a surprisingly well written book. It moves quickly and never drags. In the beginning Tommy mentions he has been given a photographic memory wherein his mind takes pictures of what he wants to remember and after reading this book that may be the explanation for the incredible amount of detail, names, dates/events/ and locations mentioned in this book. I cannot recall any book in recent memory quite like this. The book is a page-turner with a tremendous amount of family information with insight and honest commentary. Tommy grew up as an artistic young person absorbed and fascinated by fashion and by 18 years of age began his first clothing business. He seems to be gifted mentally and creatively coupled with passion and motivation to pursue his dreams which has paid off. This is a man gifted with intuitive and creative gifts coupled with unusual motivation and drive. I found his childhood memories and experiences never really left him, making the book unusually human and moving. You get the feeling you know Tommy as a person after reading this book due to the intimacy an detail he brings to the reader. The last 30% of the book is more business oriented due to buying and selling options but ends again with family issues and the ultimate consumation of his amazingly successful run and success.
An interesting account of one of America's most popular fashion designers. As someone with little knowledge of the field, I found my attention to the book waxing and waning. Someone with a greater interest in this industry might be better motivated to speed through what I found to be something of a slog. I felt the book would have benefited from more attentive editing.
I was already fan of the brand, but more so now. The book is easy to read, written in a genuine voice, and I learned so about his life.
This is a good read if one is interested in fashion from beginning to end. Also, TH shares his creative thinking from the birth of a thought to thefinal design and the world travelling to find the fabrics, etc., to how the pieces are fashioned. He shares his life well. . . .
I give this book five stars for being a smooth, interesting read, and a trip down memory lane to the fun filled 70's of which I was a part of. As a business person myself, I also give it five stars for great insight, determination and a candid look at what it takes to build a business, win, loose and draw! Well done! I first saw an interview of Tommy on Charlie Rose...that is what made me order the book, both the interview and the book hit the mark for me!
